Church Description: FBC is an independent Baptist church which has been serving the spiritual needs in the Gallatin Valley for 35 years. It has been served by 3 pastors, with the longest tenure being 25 years. The church is committed to conservative theology, biblical teaching, gospel proclamation, and discipleship of all ages. Being financially sound and without debt, the church supports 10 missionaries through BBFI (https://www.bbfi.org/) and other like-minded organizations. The average attender is 40-45 in age and the average Sunday morning attendance is currently 55 with room for growth. The church presents a blended worship service which seeks to encourage and equip believers while also drawing the lost to saving faith. Adult and children’s Sunday school in addition to small groups are offered. There is a tight-knit family feel to FBC where people take eternal matters seriously without being too bound to tradition or protocol. Each year the church sponsors a large outreach event, called Harvest Carnival which touches many lives. The church currently leases a nicely refurbished 3700 square foot facility in the NE part of Bozeman, near downtown. The church exists to love God fully, learn truth faithfully, and live out the gospel fearlessly.
 
Location: The church is located in Bozeman, Montana (pop. 50,000), home of Montana State University in the beautiful Gallatin Valley. Bozeman is the fastest growing micropolitan community in the United States. It is one of the premier small cities in the intermountain West and a top destination for those who enjoy all forms outdoor recreation, wide open spaces and soaring mountain vistas. Bozeman sits on the I-90 corridor and offers many amenities appreciated by young and old alike. It’s a great place to raise a family or retire.
 
Job Prerequisites:
  • U.S. citizen
  • Can pass a criminal background check
  • Willing to submit a credit check
  • Above reproach, meeting the biblical qualifications in I Timothy 3:1-7; and Titus 1:5-9
  • Healthy marriage and home life
  • Has a vital personal relationship with the Lord- spending adequate time in scripture, prayer and meditation on a regular basis
 
Position Requirements:
  • He will have a vital personal relationship with the Lord- spending adequate time in scripture, prayer and meditation.
  • He will have a minimum bachelor’s degree in Bible, theology or a related field from an accredited higher education institution.
  • He will have a track record of effectiveness in biblical teaching, preaching, leadership and general church ministry.
  • He will be both a pastor-teacher and shepherd-leader, excelling as a skilled preacher of God’s Word and as a loving shepherd of the flock.
  • He will have a passion for outreach and discipleship in a university community.
  • He will have a talent for envisioning and realizing strategies of gospel growth in the church and community.
  • He will have demonstrated the ability to lead well by forming healthy and effective relationships with both congregants and lay leadership teams.
  • He will be in complete agreement with the church’s doctrinal statement and comfortable with the church’s historical association with Bible Baptist Fellowship, Int’l.
  • He and his family will be excited about relocating to Montana and putting down deep roots.
 
Candidate Preferences (not requirements):
  • Married, Age 35-45 with children still at home.
  • Strong interpersonal skills / warm personal affect.
  • Spiritual gifts in preaching/teaching, wisdom/discernment, and leadership.

Job Description as described in By-laws:
The pastor is called to lead the church indefinitely according to I Peter 5:1-4. Because of the command to preach the word, the pastor shall be at liberty to preach as the Lord leads him. The pastor shall be ex-officio member of all boards and committees of the Church. The pastor seeks to perform with fidelity the ministries of evangelism, stewardship, missions and teaching. The pastor shall proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and administer Christ’s ordinances. The pastor will direct the worship services. The pastor will have in charge the welfare and oversight of the church, including all ministries and staff; all Church staff and employees, whether paid or volunteer, shall be under the supervision of the Pastor who has the sole authority to hire, appoint, or dismiss the same The pastor will serve as corporation president. The pastor will act as moderator in all meetings for the transaction of business. The pastor is responsible for all administration of the church. This includes office, staff, janitorial, grounds and buildings. This is not to imply that the pastor will do these things: only that he will oversee and delegate them as appropriate. The pastor will lead and guide all other members of the pastoral staff. He will be responsible to ensure that all staff, pastoral and otherwise, fulfill the requirements of their job descriptions. The pastor is to maintain contact with all supported church missionaries and missions. He is to see that the congregation is also involved in the lives and ministries of those missionaries and missions. The pastor will delegate and oversee the planning of outreach activities. He will oversee the assimilation of new attendees and work toward creating an inviting environment in the congregation. The pastor will participate in and oversee the Christian Education of all ages. This includes Sunday School classes, youth, and adult education. He will delegate many responsibilities to volunteers in the church. The pastor will provide short-term counseling as needed. He will be available and responsive to crisis situations. He will provide pastoral care through the most effective means possible. The position requires great flexibility in time schedule. The pastor should be available for evening activities as well as work on the weekends. The pastor is free to take one to two days off each week depending on the needs of the congregation
